Job Duties
Workers will work all duties involved in planting, growing and harvesting sweet potatoes. Workers will plant, cultivate and harvest sweet potatoes. Workers will cut planting slips and place in container according to instructions. Workers will use care when working with potato knife. Workers will walk along row that has been previously plowed. Workers will drop potato slips into ground and cover back up with dirt. Workers will remove weeks manually either by hand or with a hoe. Workers will stoop, bend, and kneel to pick up sweet potatoes using hands and fingers to dig out unexposed potatoes. Workers may grade in the field separating #1 s and #2 s into separate 5/8 field hampers. Canners, when harvested, will be placed into a separate bin. Damaged or diseased potatoes will not be harvested. Full hampers weighing up to 35 lbs. will be carried to truck row to be loaded onto truck or trailer. Workers will be required to stay on their assigned row. Workers may also be required to wash the sweet potatoes and get them ready for sale. \nWorkers may be required to operate tractors and other farm equipment during field operations as an incidental activity in the production of crops. Those who are qualified may be required to drive pick-up trucks and/or small transportation vehicles.\nWorkers will be instructed in safety and operation of the tractor and other equipment before driving tractor or using other equipment. Tractors should be driven in a manner to protect operator, other workers, products, trees, crops and equipment. Repeated failure to obey safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination. In addition, workers may be required to perform variable tasks relating to crop production such as the following: irrigation, ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, weeding, cleaning and repairing farm buildings, see beds, racks, grounds and other tasks related to general farming. Employer paid post hire drug testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use and after a worker has an accident at work.
Job requires operating farm equipment including, but not limited to, tractors with various implements to till soil & harvest crops. Sweet potatoes –Use and riding of mechanical digging equipment to dig potatoes. May harvest sweet potatoes by hand with use of bucket. May be asked to drive tractor while pulling digger. Must be able to sort, grade, & pack potatoes by size, quality, or type. Load & unload boxes on trucks, trailers, and sweet potato harvesters. Use wood to build & repair boxes for digger with the use of nail guns/hammers. Repair, maintain, & clean all hand tools & mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Workers may also harvest soybeans, cotton, and corn. Workers must be able to work with minimum supervision. Workers may be asked to drive farm vehicles. May Transport workers to fields and or grocery store. Appropriate driver’s license required.
Job duties include the operation of farm equipment to harvest and transport crops to the storage area. Equipment includes tractors, combines, pickup trucks, and semi trucks with hopper bottom. Employees will load and unload trucks for hauling crops to grain elevators. Job duties also include manual labor such as performing maintenance and repairs on equipment, washing and cleaning equipment, mowing grass, and maintaining grounds of the farm, grain elevator, and shop areas. Must be able to obtain a drivers license within 30 days of hire and have 3 months of experience. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. Unload catch from fishing vessels. Assist in storing and maintaining inventory. Assist, as needed, with clean-up of plant grounds, production areas and equipment, mending nets. Perform other tasks as directed within the plant yard during the fishing season. Maintain cleanliness of work area. Assist with disposal of waste water. Complete all tasks safely. Report all hazards, accidents, injuries, or environmental excursions to member of the management team immediately. Work schedule: Day Shift:7am-3:30pm; Night Shift: 7pm to 3:30am. Plant, cultivate, harvest, grade, sort and pack sweet potatoes, soybeans and corn by hand or machine. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers and knives. Apply fertilizers, propagate, transplant, weed, and thin. Bed sweet potatoes into the dirt and place plastic paper over the beds. Use shovels to shovel dirt onto the beds that are covered with plastic. Remove paper from the beds and put a remake paper over the beds. After the potato plants sprout and come through the ground, cut the plants with a butcher knife. Place the plants into plastic crates. Load crates of slips onto a flatbed trailer. Ride a transplanter to transplant plants. Manually feed the potato plants into the fingers on the transplanter that places the plant into the ground and covers the root of the plant with dirt. Walk behind the transplanter and plant slips by hand using a stick. Ride a potato digger or harvester and pick up potatoes off of a chain, sort them, and place them into boxes on the digger while harvesting. Harvesting may also be done by hand in 40 lb. buckets. Clean, pack and load harvested products. Wash and pack potatoes into boxes for shipping. Remove completed or defective products and place them on conveyors or in specified areas such as loading docks. Seal containers using glue, string, nails and hand tools. Load materials and products into package processing equipment. Use hand tools to assemble, line, and pad cartons, crates and containers. Pull and/or hoe grass and weeds from the fields. Repair fences and farm buildings. Repair and build wooden potato bins that are used for storage. Work requires bending and lifting from the ground. Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery (including variations such as: hipper, disc dual, chisel plow, potato transplanter, bush hog, grain buggy and skid steer) to plow, harrow, fertilize, apply chemicals, plant, cultivate, or harvest crops. Operate, repair, and maintain farm vehicles, implements and equipment. Work will continue during wet periods while the fields are too muddy for the harvesting with tractors. Clean and maintain containers, materials, supplies, greenhouses and work areas. Participate in irrigation activities. Set up, operate and repair irrigation systems. Perform quality control on inbound/outbound loads. Follow quality control standards. Assist with all Good Agricultural Practices policies. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. They also remove dead fish, trash fish and bycatch from the conveyor system.\nFeed fish into a head cutter, place fish correctly into a fillet machine and deskin the fish.\nOperate equipment to cut the head off whole fish, eviscerate whole fish and deskin the whole fish.\nObserve the operating equipment and clear any blockages manually.\nOperate band saw to cut eviscerated, skinned, whole fish into steak pieces.\nMove containers of live fish, whole fish, and fillets between various stations in the plant including other fillet lines, manual whole fish lines, water jet trim lines, manual trim lines, and coolers using pallet jacks and hand dollies.\nFish Trimmers: \nInspect, separate and place fish fillets onto conveyor system feeding a water jet trimming machine or intelligent portioning machine and inspect for defects and blemishes and remove the fillets and nuggets from the conveyor system coming out of the water jet trimming machine or intelligent portioning machine, sorting them to the systems that sort and grade them according to size specifications. Inspect for blemishes, bones, skin, or misgraded product and remove from belt into containers to be reworked. Place ice in boxes on top of bagged fish, secure top onto box and stack boxes onto pallets for storage in the cooler and shipment on outbound trailers.\n\n\n

Workers will plant, cultivate and harvest sweet potatoes. Workers will cut planting slips by hand and place in container according to instructions. Workers will use care when working with potato knife. Workers will walk along row that has been previously plowed. Workers will drop potato slips into ground and cover back up with dirt. Workers will remove weeds manually either by hand or with a hoe. Workers will stoop, bend, and kneel to pick up sweet potatoes using hands and fingers to dig out unexposed potatoes. Workers may grade in the field separating potatoes into separate field hampers. Worker will ride on trans-planter to place potatoes, excessive skipping is not tolerated.
