Job Duties
We need seasonal labor to assist with livestock feeding using skid steer, clean and load manure from cattle pens. Drive semi-trucks and large trailers to load, transport and haul feeding products and manure to different locations. Also include daily maintenance on fences, buildings, equipment and machinery. Complete record keeping, administering medications, giving vaccinations or insecticides as appropriate to livestock. Daily duties will also include cleaning and maintaining animal housing areas. Will operate tractors and equipment to assist in feeding of cattle, relocating feed and manure. Employer may pay performance-based incentive bonuses at the end of the contract period at the employer's discretion. Employer may provide pay increases for longevity and experience.
We need seasonal employees to assist with general farm duties. Operate a tractor to haul grain to storage and complete routine maintenance on farm equipment and implements to prepare it for the fall harvest. During the winter employee will need to complete snow removal around the property, during the spring the employee will need to complete the necessary mowing. During the spring employee will need to power-wash equipment to prepare for the planting and harvesting season.
We are in need of seasonal employees to assist with our crop production of corn, soybeans, alfalfa and grass hay. We also do fencing and pasture care in the summer for our cows. We need seasonal workers to assist with our crop operation and mechanical duties. In the field, the truck will be loaded for you and you will be responsible for transportation and unloading at the storage facility, normally within 15 miles from the field. We need seasonal help with the planting and harvesting of corn and soybeans. Employees will operate large farm equipment such as tractors and combines and will do infield repairs. Employees will also complete log books, maintenance schedules and field checklists. Employees will need to haul harvested crops from field to storage locations.
We farm 6,900 acres of corn and soybeans in north central Iowa. This year we are growing around 3,000 acres of soybeans and 3,900 of corn. We run all late model John Deere equipment with auto steer. We have two combines, two grain carts, two rippers and four semis. We have one grain bin site that we dry our corn and either store it or haul to end user - our soybeans all go to town during harvest. Employees will assist with all aspects of growing and harvesting these crops. Employees will run the the grain carts and tillage equipment, and complete general farm duties as assigned. Employees will need to complete routine repairs and maintenance on equipment. Employer may provide pay increases for performance and experience at employer’s discretion. All animal waste generating in our hog operation is utilized as organic fertilizer for our corn production operation. The manure generated throughout the year is applied to crop fields once or twice a year according to strict application and utilization plans. Manure is applied in the fall from late September through December when crops are removed and the ground is not frozen. In the spring, application occurs in late March through June before the corn is planted. Additional seasonal help is needed for this labor-intensive part of our production cycle. Laborers are responsible for preparing, maintaining, cleaning and operating all machinery and equipment used for the handling of the manure. Liquid slurry manure is pumped into tanker applicators to be applied directly to crop fields or is pumped through an umbilical hose system utilizing pumps, tractors and hoses to move the manure to the crop fields. Laborers may need to be proficient in tractor and pump operations. Some manure requires truck transportation so a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be necessary. Employees must be mechanically inclined and be able to stand, sit and stoop for like periods of time. Equipment operated may include: ATV, pickup, truck, semi-truck, or tractor. Washing and disinfecting at the facilities where manure is removed may also be completed. Three (3) months of experience using a manure spreader is required.
Our farm utilizes seasonal help throughout fall harvest. Employees may assist with all aspects of corn production. In the fall, harvest and production would start in October and run through December. We need qualified workers to assist in preparing cattle for sale. Duties will include herding, grazing, castrating, branding, weighing, catching and loading animals. Employees will also need to maintain records on animals, examine animals to detect disease and injuries; assist with birth deliveries; and administer medications and vaccinations as appropriate. Will need to operate trucks and tractors and other equipment to distribute feed and assist with cutting of forage as directed.
Workers will be required to wash, disinfect, and bake livestock trailers each time a trailer leaves the livestock confinement. We need seasonal help during the hatching season of exotic poultry. Employees will need to gather the eggs, build nesting boxes, sanitize the incubators, hatcher, barns and pens. On farms, the Crane Operator is responsible for operating a mobile crane to lift, move position, and reposition loads. The Operator will move materials to various locations in a safe and effective manner on Livestock confinements facilities. The Operator controls crane functions by depressing buttons and foot pedals as well as manipulating levers simultaneously. The Operator will be required to unload crane accessories, including but not limited to outrigger pads, chain fall, rigging gear, and safety devices from trailers or support vehicles as well as transport the crane to and from jobsites. The Operator will be required to perform daily safety checks to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition. We have a project to reconstruct the cattle pens. We have to tear out and replace the fences, re-grade/re-landscape, to reconstruct the feeding troughs. We also need to repair some of the areas where cement floors have broken and need to be repaired. We have 120 cattle pens that need to be reconstructed. We will try to do as many each summer as the weather and time will allow. Our farm utilizes seasonal help from spring planting through fall harvest. Employees may assist with all aspects of soybean and corn production. We need seasonal employees to assist with planting corn for silage in the spring, spraying and taking care of the crop during the summer and assist with chopping silage in the fall. Employees will need to operate trucks to haul harvested silage to storage locations. Employees will need to assist with livestock as directed.
Construction of livestock confinement. On farm site duties to be performed include unloading and installation of various types of hog equipment such as watering, feed, ventilation and gating systems, insulating and sealing components of livestock barns and ventilation systems. Once the farm site is operational, duties may also include stocking the site with livestock and general livestock care associated with that process. Once the livestock confinement equipment is installed, the building needs to be stocked with the swine. The swine is trucked to the facility. The workers will be responsible for receiving the livestock from the truck and unloading the livestock into the appropriate location within the confinement. Equipment installation workers will then troubleshoot and/or adjust the livestock equipment, such as the feeding and watering systems, which cannot be done until livestock are in the building. Employee will need to drive Semi-Tractor/Trailer to tender seed, dry fertilizer, wet fertilizer, and finished commodities. Drive John Deere 9460R in spring to do spring tillage and operate late model guidance systems (primarily John Deere based). Drive Polaris Rangers to monitor crop, pick up rocks and spot spray ditches and fence rows. Operate a 4020 and a Payloader to pick up large rocks located in the field. Light Repair and maintain John Deere 8 series, 9 Series tractor, DB90 Planter, 4720 Sprayer, 2210 field cultivator, S690 combine, S680 Combine, John Deere Flex Draper Bean Heads; John Deere Folding Corn Head, Brent Grain Cart, 5 semi tractors, 5 grain trailers, 1 side dump trailer, 1 flatbed trailer with Tanks and pumps attached for tending the sprayer. Run a lawn mower and maintain landlord groves and yards. Drive Farm Trucks with Trailers. Assist with the operation of the grain setup during harvest and hauling periods. Pressure washing and cleaning all machinery. Other odd farm jobs in furtherance of the business.
Workers will be required to wash, disinfect, and baking livestock trailers each time a trailer leaves the livestock confinement. Workers will remove snow from around the livestock confinements and road on the farm. Workers will also be required to disinfect the snow removal equipment after each use. Workers will be required to remove and transport dead and living livestock. Workers will transport pigs within our production flow while always strictly following animal wellbeing, biosecurity, and safety protocols.
Starting in the beginning of May through July the workers will help getting crops in, prepare pastures for putting cattle in, repair bins and buildings. Driving trucks to deliver grain to market.\n\nStarting in the beginning of August through September workers will be assembling and constructing, fixing grain bins using hand tools from May to the beginning of October. General farm construction work on buildings, corals and fencing. For this aspect they will use drills, saws, fencing tools, screw guns and nailers. Hand labor duties as needed. The work hours are 8am to 3pm Monday through Sunday and depending on the weather condition.\n\nStarting in the beginning of October through December the workers will handle manure hauling. There are 2 separate work shifts. The first shift starts at 3 a.m. to 12 p.m. The second shift starts at 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.\nThe job consists of learning the operation of the pump tractor and pumping liquid swine manure from deep pit confinement barns to be used as fertilizer during the growing season: Workers will man the tractor and load tanks as they come in to reload. Workers will check levels in the manure pit as needed. Workers will monitor the tractors on pump for agitation and loading. Workers will assist with set up and tear down of pump system and power washing equipment when moving between barns and fields. Workers will be instructed to follow all safety and biosecurity protocols. Workers will help with operating the power washing equipment when moving between fields. They will perform basic maintenance and repairs service on the pump and power washer equipment as needed with instructions and help from the team. Workers will follow instructions and directions from supervisor on how to operate the tractor and manure tank for injecting liquid swine manure on farm fields. Workers will learn to operate and monitor the tractors for the rate of manure application and documentation of the application. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and be available to work Monday through Sunday. Beginning and ending times will vary depending on the weather condition. The job will require extensive sitting in tractor, potential to get dirty, pushing, pulling, basic mechanical ability and tractor operation. While no formal training will be provided to the workers the workers will, from time to time, be given work duties and directions by their supervisors, who will also answer any questions they may have, including but not limited to the manner in which a particular duty is to be performed. Drug/alcohol-free work zone. Workers after hire, may be required to take a random drug test at no cost to the worker. Erecting grain bin steel for farmers. Workers will assemble pre-fabricated grain bin storage. They will work with a teammate to insert bolts, washers, and nuts into steel sheets. Caulking is applied to seams and lifting is required to put steel sheets in place. Electric wrench is then used to tighten the bolts.
We farm 3000 acres of corn, soybeans, and hay. We prepare the soil, plant, spray, harvest and haul the grain to storage facilities. We need a seasonal employee to assist with all aspects of raising these crops. Employee will need to operate late model John Deere equipment. Employee will need to assist with mowing and weed control on farm. During haying season employee will need to operate hay equipment to swathe, rake, and bale hay. Employee will need to clean out grain bins and clean and organize shop and other farm buildings as needed to do routine maintenance and upkeep. Employees will need to operate semi-trucks. The workers will recycle hogs. The workers will perform the demolition, framing, and equipment work in the construction of the new barn. The workers will receive the new shipment of pigs once the barn is completed and ready to be restocked with pigs. They will sanitize all equipment that arrives on the worksite as well as the facility as it is constructed.
The workers will relocate pigs to numerous sites throughout the life cycle of the pigs. The workers will haul pigs for recycling. The workers will relocate existing sows to a breeding barn to be bred. Thereafter, the workers will move to numerous farrowing barns. The workers will disperse the hogs among the numerous barns. The workers will haul feed corresponding with the number of hogs.
Worker must possess the physical strength and endurance (ability to continue or last) to repeat the harvest process though out the workday, working quickly and skillfully to perform activities assigned during that activity. Pickers will take care not to bruise or scar produce. Pre-harvest activities may include staking, tying, transplanting and pruning. Workers will stand on feet for long periods of time. Workers are required to work in fields when plants are wet with dew or rain. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range from forty (40) to over one hundred (100) degrees. \n\nFarm Equipment Operation: Workers will be required to operate tractors, trucks and other farm equipment during field operations as an incidental activity in the production of crops. Workers will use mechanical sweet potato harvesting equipment. Before any worker is required to operate any farm equipment, the worker will be instructed in the proper and safe operation of tractor. Workers must notify supervisor of any mechanical issues. Workers will be required to operate tractors according to instructions and in a manner that protects the operator, other workers, trees, crops and equipment. We need seasonal workers form March until December to assist with our farming operation. Starting in the spring, employees will spread manure on fields. In the fall, employees will assist with harvesting high moisture corn and haul crops to storage locations. During the winter months we do not put down new bedding but just add additional bedding since the winter weather outside does not permit hauling and moving bedding. During these months it is very labor intensive to clean out the build-up bedding and cleaning and getting ready for the summer season. During the months of May through December employees will also need to work cattle including vaccinate, lice control and implant Revalor products behind ears. The summer is also the time when intensive care is needed to treat for disease and insects to maintain cattle health. During the months of May through August employees will need to haul dirt to replenish pen quality. Dirt cannot be added after August 1 since there will not be enough time for the dirt to compact before the winter months. During the months of May through November sick cattle are also put in pastures and need to be check and cared for. This is the only time cattle can graze in grass pastures before the winter months start and they need to be confined. From June 15 until around October 15, employees will need to monitor temperatures in feed lot and turn on and maintain sprinkler systems. The feedlot temperature needs to be monitored and maintained for optimal animal care. When temperatures go above 80 degrees the sprinkler systems are turned on and when it drops below 80 degrees the sprinklers are turned off. No sprinkler maintenance and repairs are needed during the colder months. Employees will be required to complete routine maintenance and repairs on equipment. We operate a seasonal row crop farming operation where we farm corn and soybeans. We need seasonal employees to assist with all aspects of growing and raising these crops. We are a cattle and grain farm. Our cattle side consists of 600 cow/calf pairs that are raised in a pasture setting. We have 2,500 cattle in the feedlot that we finish for market. Our grain side of the operation has 1,500 acres of corn that we harvest mostly for feed. The job we are hiring for is a cow/calf assistant. Job duties will include assisting in calving in the spring, starting in mid-February, which lasts until the end of May. These calving duties include monitoring cattle for calving difficulties and health problems. As well as feeding, bedding, and cleaning the pens of the cattle. Cows are confined during this period and brought in from pastures for calving. While they are confined intensive care and manual feeding is needed. At the end of calving, the cow/calf pairs are moved to pasture, where the employee will check the cattle. \n\nJob duties through the summer will include checking health/welfare of the cattle. Maintaining perimeter fence to keep livestock in and predators out. Checking water levels and providing mineral for the cattle. Administering veterinary care as needed, including administering vaccinations. Additionally weed control to maximize feed value. In the fall, the employee will assist with preconditioning calves and cows. Sorting the calves to be sold, and the cows to be loaded to go to another site for winter care. Additional time would be spent harvesting bedding and feed supply for the next spring when the cows return to calve again.
Workers will drive and operate tractors with towed implements such as scaled feeder wagons to feed cattle. Workers will grind feed, chop forge for the cattle and bed the pens. They will check animals for health conditions and administrate vaccines when needed. We need employees to start in February with field prep for the spring planting. Field prep includes laying tiling to control water in fields, repairing/removing and replacing fencing, dirt work, building terraces, and create and maintain drainage ditches. Make flats by placing inserts or pots into trays or saucers into pots and placing into soil machinery. Put Growcoons or Elle Pots in flats and fill with soil medium. Stick plant cutting and/or seed into medium. Perform cleaning and sanitation in production areas as required. Load/unload carts with plants and move to designated locations. Perform general plant maintenance. Prune, disbud, tie, ring, net, trim, space, sort, straighten, transplant, and cull plants to ensure availability of marketable products. Move and install irrigation pipes and equipment. Dig, count, grade, and inventory plants. Prepare plants for planting by plug popping out of container/flat or trimming. Prepare plants for digging by tying or wrapping as necessary. Dig plants. Clean and dip bulbs.\n\nLoad and unloads plants and supplies from trucks. Remove and apply shade tarps to greenhouses. Install and remove fan covers. Operate plant fixer machine and other machinery and equipment to cultivate, harvest, de-leaf, and trim. Pull flats from the greenhouse to move or to throw away. Dump lily boxes. Locate flats in the greenhouse, pick them up, set them onto a rack, and relocate them to the appropriate area. Assemble racks for plants to be shipped on. Maintain racks by greasing, assembling, and putting away for storage and taking apart. Racks are custom built for each individual order and may vary in size. Workers may use powered tools in the assembly and disassembly process. \nAssist in preparing the ground by leveling and removing old ground cover cloth and replacing with new cloth to place plants. Remove and apply shade tarps or plastic to greenhouses. Cover and uncover plants with frost/freeze protection fabrics. Mow, cut, and weed fields. Perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. Bending, stooping and kneeling required. Use tools including but not limited to hoes, shovels, shears, clippers, loppers, saws, planters, plows, sprayers, cultivators, power shears, leaf blowers, mowers, weed trimmers, and cart movers. Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs. Build/repair fences.\n\nWorkers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer’s products and property. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination. \n\nWorkers must understand greenhouse quality control standards and have working knowledge of production procedures. Must harvest crops according to specific standards. Plants must be handled carefully to prevent/avoid damage.\n\n

We operate a diversified farming operation where we farm 3500 acres of row crop including corn and soybeans. We also grow 600 acres of alfalfa hay in the summertime that we need to bale. Our farming operation also includes a feed lot, hogs and we also raise goats. We need seasonal employees to assist with our crop production. Employees will need to operate farm equipment to till/prep soil, plant, spreading manure on fields, raising and harvest crops. Employees will also need to operate semi-trucks to haul harvested crops from fields to storage. Employees will need to operate a mower, rake, and baler to bale alfalfa hay. Employees will also complete routine repairs and maintenance on equipment and assist with other farm duties as needed. Workers will pick a variety of apples by hand using company provided picking baskets. Workers will work from the ground and from aluminum ladders up to 8 feet tall. Workers will need to closely follow company instructions to ensure apples are not damaged during the picking process. Some apples may be selectively picked for size, color or condition. Workers will assist in moving empty wooden bins and/or crates in and around the orchard by hand. Sorting of apples will take place indoors using a semi-automatic sizing grader and will require workers to sort out unsuitable fruit from good quality fruit and placing good fruit into wooden crates and cardboard boxes. Full crates/boxes will be stacked on pallets. Workers may assist with production and distribution of apple cider made with at least 50% of apples grown on the employer's orchards, filling duties such as pressing apples into cider, filling cider into plastic jugs, loading jugs into crates, stacking crates of cider and delivering the cider and apples grown on employer's farm to the employer's farm market and other retail accounts. Workers will provide general orchard and other farm labor including establishing/repairing trellis, cleaning up the orchard, repairing irrigation lines, tying branches, thinning apples, mowing and cutting ground sprouts. Workers will prune apple trees using pruning tools and aluminum ladders up to 8 feet tall. Workers will repair wooden crates and apple bins using hand and pneumatic tools. Workers will also plant, grow, pick and prepare for sale strawberries, rhubarb and other seasonal crops, and perform light maintenance and improvement of farm structures, land and equipment. Weekly and hourly work schedules in Boxes A.6 and A.7 are merely approximate; actual hours will depend on weather and needs of the farm, and substantial mandatory overtime will probably be assigned.
Prepare sites for receiving new crop and harvesting; prepare for seeding; prepare fertilizer; seed and plant corn and soybean; apply fertilizer and fungicide; harvest corn and soybean- 85% of the job hours are spent on doing all these duties. \nNeed to assist in repair and maintain the precision technology of farm operation and farm equipment; need to operate combine, sprayer, drier, grain legs and conveyors, rc cultivator, rotary hoe, tractor- only 15% of job hours are spent on these duties.
Examine chick genitalia to determine their sex, including picking up chicks, squeezing chicks so that feces is extracted, shining light or turning back cloacal opening to view and observe the sex of the chick. Segregate chicks according to sex. Pick up, sort eggs and clean barn. Three months of experience as a Chick Sexer required.
Winter months in Iowa are very cold and we need to put bedding down for cattle while they are confined to keep the pens dry, employees will assist with pen maintenance and pen repairs during this time. We confine our cattle in pens during the winter to keep them away from the elements. During this time (December-April), we need to feed the cattle daily since they are not able to graze freely in pastures. From December until the spring (April) employees will need to assist with putting down bedding for cattle daily to ensure cattle are comfortable and run at peak performance. At the feedlot cattle wellbeing comes first. We run a well-kept farm. We process cattle, moving, sweeping, washing, and repairing equipment. We scrape and haul snow from pens to keep the mud away to also assist with keeping the pens dry. We pump and spread manure on fields all winter. In the spring we need to prepare cattle and work them to take care of any winter related health issues. This requires additional assistance with cattle during this time. When things dry out in the spring, we completely clean out the pens and haul dirt to fill any holes caused by the winter weather. We mow the fields. Cattle are returned to fields for grazing and no further manual care is needed until the next winter. We then clean farm stalls and equipment. We also bale some grass and hay and spray for weeds around the farm. During the summer months of May through August we plant corn and grasses to then be harvested in the fall. In August through October, we put up roughly 350,000 bushels of wet corn which takes a lot of time. After we finish putting up corn, we bale 4,000 round bales of stalks, which will be gathered and piled for winter usage. Employees will need to operate a tractor with a baler and rake to make bales. Employees will also need to pile 5,000 ton of corn roughage to prepare for the next winter.

Care includes late gestation (gestation is the period a female animal carries an embryo) through lambing until lambs are sold. Sale of lambs from May to September. Care of pregnant ewes during the birthing process. Maintain healthy and biosecure birthing areas. Care of lambs through nursing and weaning processes. Must be experienced with synchronized breeding/lambing. Includes making silage and hay for this flock on 300 acres in the spring. Must be able to lift and carry 75lbs for 50yds.
